Number of Gambling Houses Decreasing in Latvia
AllGames :
Over the last several years, the country has shown a general decrease both in the number of wins, and in the number of places for gambling.
Based on the data provided by the Lotteries and Gaming Supervision Inspection, in 2008 the gambling business turnover, as well as the number of casinos and gambling houses reduced almost by half in Latvia. During the same year, the winners received 4,360 prizes in the amount of over 500 lats each (such prizes are subject to tax).
Out of the total amount of winnings, the sum of 297 prizes exceeded 5,000 lats. In 2009, wins were even rarer for players—the total number of prizes in the amount of over 500 lats each paid in this period was 3,002. Last year, only 1,800 wins were received in the country's casinos. In its turn, during the first 6 months of the current year, 715 prizes of over 500 lats were paid in Latvia. Out of this number, 65 prizes of over 5,000 lats were received by fans of online casino games.
